Chrismas 2009

We had our first Christmas celebration in the new Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Only ten people attended the celebration. It was the same congregation which attended the Eucharist of the New year 2010.

Ecumenical Week

On Sunday 24th January all roads led to Mulago Catholic Parish to conclude the week of Christian Unity Catholics, Anglicans, and Orthodox Christians prayed together. The centenary year of Ecumenism in Uganda was inaugurated.

Moroto Mission

In July 2009, Frs Martin Andama CSSp and  Peter Mulyanga CSSp, visited the diocese of Moroto to see the Daniel Comboni Polytechnic college. The Bishop of Moroto had proposed to us to administer this college. The proposal of the Bishop was discussed and after another visit by Fr. Nicholas Kerebba in Jan 2010, it was decided that we should take this ministry. This year (2009) we commemorate 300 years since the death of our founder Claude Francis Poullart des Places, the lover of education and the poor. This College will be a symbol of the Uganda Foundation that we are following the footsteps of our founder. Karamojong are God’s people who have been neglected by the government for a long time and occupy the most difficult region of Uganda. The place is very dry and for the last three years, no rainfal. We visited Moroto National hospital, we found many children suffering from malaria pneumonia and malnutrition. Our nearest Spiritan community while working in Moroto diocese will be the Spiritan Community in Pokot - Kenya. There is always cattle raids between the Pokot, Karamajong and Turkana. Fr. Nicholas Kerebba has been appointed to take up this ministry.

Kabale Diocese

The bishop of Kabale, Rt. Rev. Bishop Callist Rubaramira invited the Congregation of the Holy Spirit to work in his diocese. Following this invitation, the Superior of the Foundation, Fr. Joseph Mary Kiganda together with Fr. Martin Andama visited the bishop on Feb 11, 2009 to follow up this invitation. The bishop took them to Kambuga parish which is about 126 kms from Kabale town where the bishop resides. The journey was through a mountaneous area. Kambuga parish has 36 sub-parishes. The parish has a polytechnic which was built by the Comboni missionaries. One of the subparishes, Nyamirama will be a parish. After the visitation, the Foundation Council decided that we will take on this parish and develop Nyamirama to be a parish in the near future.

Extended Community Meeting

There was a Spiritan extended meeting at Mulago Parish on Feb 22, 2010. Communities were reminded to draw up a financial policy to be presented to the next community meeting that will take place at Kyebando Spiritan community. The financial policy should be according to the guidelines of SRL 65. Confreres were requested to keep a journal.
